This Week's Obsessions: The 12 Days of More

This Week's Obsessions: The 12 Days of More

We believe that luxury can deliver so much more, so we started More.

We believe luxury brands have a responsibility to deliver value for money.  We also felt what we experienced when shopping, wasn't a luxury experience. Trying to get items repaired was challenging to say the least, and then there were quality issues with items we purchased, even as the prices kept rising.

We decided we deserved more, as did everyone who wants to own luxury goods.  So we created More Luxury Club. Our vision was to create abundance through sharing, creating a fully circular marketplace that would allow you to own more of the coveted goods you love in a more affordable and sustainable way. We wanted to remove the hassles of caring, storing, repairing, and more. We also wanted to deliver a high level of service, that would blow your mind.  We want to know our customers and learn about what they want, what excellent service feels like to them and how we can be exceptional at delivering value.

So with the idea of delivering we more, this season we are launching the 12 days of More, to make sure you get that coveted designer bags this year.  How? We're  going to play your Santa. Are you game?

The 3 Designer Bags that Retain their Value

So much has been written about designer handbags as investments, in fact we've written several blogs about this and why investing with More is so much savvier. More about that later.

Typically we hear certain brands are the best for value retention, but actually there are specific bags within those brands that are the winners. The first two won't surprise - and that's probably why their prices have increased so much recently. The third I found surprising but it's price has double since 2019.

1. Hermès Birkin

  • Resale Value: Hermès Birkin bags typically retain about 80% of their original value.  Although Brand New in Box (BNIB) of often sold for 2 - 3 x the retail RRP.

  • Factors Influencing Value:

    • Material and Rarity: Bags made from exotic leathers or in limited editions often command higher prices.
    • Condition: Pristine or excellent condition significantly boosts resale value.
    • Size and Colour: Certain sizes and colours are more sought after, affecting demand and price.

2. Chanel Flap Bag

  • Resale Value: The Chanel Classic Flap bag maintains over 100% of its value in the secondhand market.

  • Factors Influencing Value:

    • Condition: Bags in excellent or like-new condition fetch higher prices.
    • Material: Caviar leather versions are particularly desirable due to their durability.
    • Market Trends: Chanel's regular price increases enhance the bag's investment potential.

3. Louis Vuitton Neverfull

  • Resale Value: The Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag holds an average resale value of 91%.

  • Factors Influencing Value:

    • Condition: Well-maintained bags with minimal wear are more valuable.
    • Edition: Limited editions or special collaborations can exceed standard resale values.
    • Availability: Scarcity due to waitlists or limited stock can drive up resale prices.

Key Considerations for Maximizing Returns:

  • Authenticity: Ensure the handbag is authentic, as counterfeits have no resale value.
  • Documentation: Original receipts, dust bags, and packaging can enhance resale value.
  • Market Timing: Selling during high-demand periods can yield better returns.

By maintaining these handbags in excellent condition and staying informed about market trends, sellers can achieve substantial returns on their investments

Investing in luxury handbags from brands like Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton can yield significant returns, especially when selling pieces in excellent condition. But these three are likely to do best on the resale market. Most likely driving this is  they are widely recognised for retaining their value over time, often due to their quality, demand, and brand prestige. They are considered classics so they will always be in high demand. And finally, the brands have been increasing the prices dramatically, so the resale value will follow.

Key to retaining the value is keeping the bag in new (never worn) or excellent condition.  Not always easy, most people want to enjoy their designer bags, and let's face it shit happens. One of the clear benefits of more is your bag is protected, it's insured for loss and damage and we clean, maintain and repair it so it's always in pristine condition.  While you think you may do this for yourself, trust us, we know your busy and it's hard to get around to these things - so join the club and leave the hassles with us.

Like any investment, there's always a risk of not getting the return to expected or even losing money.  We think of More as a way to de-risk these investments because you are only parting with 20% of the cash, therefore you're reducing your risk by 80%. You also will not have to pay a high commission on selling the bag, which could eat away all your profits (and more). Our commission is 10% and that's only on your share, not the entire bag. Love It or 'Hate' It?

Statement Colour: Dark Chocolate Brown

In pop culture, 2024 belonged to Brat green, but when it came to our closets, it was all about chocolate brown. From supple leather jackets in rich mocha to suede bags the colour of Toblerone, the hue dominated the runways at Bottega Veneta and Ferragamo, not to mention many fall wardrobes.

Add to this that this year suede is making a big comeback in fashion, highlighted by the chestnut jacket at Prada's spring/summer 2025 show. Its retro appeal is timeless, seen in chocolate brown totes and belted trenches. Despite concerns like rain smudges, this season's toffee and olive bags improve with wear. Chemena Kamali's Chloé collection for autumn/winter 2024 revives a '70s bohemian vibe with ruffled dresses and suede bags.

Modern suede focuses on refined silhouettes and a rich colour palette, featuring toffee, mahogany, and biscuit hues, complemented by burgundy, olive, and khaki for a sophisticated look. No matter what, we love it! But our favourite is the dark chocolate brown, seen this latest season tote by The Row as well as their perennial favourite the Margaux (which is currently sold out and retails for over £4000).  Two other entrants at a more affordable price point is the Burberry Medium Rocking Horse tote which retails at £2090 and Ferragamo's Large Hug Handbag, priced at £2390.

If you love dark chocolate as much as we do, let us know and we'll be sure to add them to this month's voting.
